Concept:

Beast, man and God. Our brief moments are a microcosm of the universe itself. Life is a struggle for immortality that can never be ours. All we can hope is that our genes survive. We realize we are finite and mark our domain like an animal marks its turf. Our endeavor to hold any sway over the land is futile; the only permanent property we shall ever possess is the grave because we become one with it in death.

My monument's symbolism is clear. The dog stands on three legs with the fourth raised defiantly towards the heavens. The first three legs symbolize food, shelter and clothing. the fourth faith. The hydrant symbolizes the well from which all life is nurtured. We are dependent on that well but want to piss in it anyway.

We refuse to admit what is self evident; we are all alone and we are doomed.

The concept for my 12 meter tall monument comes from a novelty ashtray manufactured in US occupied Japan around the year 1950. The design is American but the craftsmanship Japanese. The level of skill and quality in the object far surpasses its subject matter. Perhaps as an act of rebellion by its maker, the dog is anatomically correct.

My epitaph reads: "NO PARKING"

Bio:

I was born in Zurich, Switzerland and grew up on the streets of New York. I'm now living in California, working as a freelance website designer and graphic artist. My earlier works includes, cartoons and illustrations for magazines and newspapers, a series of health related children's books and the production of multimedia presentations and commercial CD-ROMs.

My hobbies include quantum physics, sertraline hydrochloride, and survival. My favorite color is blue.
